Weirdo Shrine So shoegazers of all countries, stop staring at your loafers for a minute, and check out this Seattle band. You might like what you’ll hear, or at least find a reflection of your mourning darkness. Don’t let the name foul you, this is some well grounded and heavy dark music. Favorite track: (more) Druids.

Witchcraft?
No, Witchrat.
Wait, so which?
...It's really solid shoegaze with a strong stoner vein, that will transport you to the middle of nowhere in the 90s.

about

Witchrat formed in 2019, just in time to watch the world burn. Between pandemic waves, political instability, environmental collapse, and economic devastation, the three piece group operated in absentia. Mostly instrumental, and with influences as diverse as the chaos that surrounds them, they draw from sounds familiar to heavy music connoisseurs (e.g., stoner rock, shoegaze, doom metal, space rock, desert rock, post rock, etc.). The result is their own apocalypse jam radio station, all written and self-recorded in their rehearsal space.

Witchrat’s 4th release, the self titled “Witchrat” is available now from Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and other popular streaming services. The record is 8 tracks of swirling meditations, and features updated and re-recorded versions of all the band's previously released music, 1 new song, and 3 new sonic experiences over 29 minutes. “Witchrat” was engineered and mixed by Drew (drums), and mastered by Phil Petrocelli, of petrocelli-audio.com.

"We learned Kyle (bass) would be relocating in 2022. We felt the need to capture the best versions of everything we wrote together; but we also wanted to experiment and make a record that was bigger in scope than all of our previous releases," said Rich (guitar). “Drew and I spent an absurd amount of time creating and tweaking sonic layers; in the rehearsal space, from field recordings, and hours of unstructured jams. We might have taken things a bit too far; but we can’t wait to share this record with the world.”

The groups first 3 releases, “Stalemate + Reverse Curse” (November 2021), “On a String” (July 2021), and “Druids” (November 2020) are available on witchrat.bandcamp.com. Each was self recorded and mixed by Drew, and mastered by Phil Petrocelli, of petrocelli-audio.com.

Armed with a new bass player, Steve (who also plays in Seattle based groups Dust Month, X Suns, and previously played with Rich in Giza), Witchrat is already tracking for their next release.
